Onboard footage of Timo Bernhard driving the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo to an all-time Nurburgring Nordschleife record lap of 5:19.
HN cites it as the benchmark lap record and recommends it even to non-car fans for its sheer speed and precision.

I was going to post earlier that IMO the level they should be aiming at is that of a brilliant racer, otherwise who needs them. There was a vid on here recently of the Porsche 919 beating the lap record at the Ring, and one of the comments was "I don't have the balls to drive that fast in a video game" such is the skill level of humans at the wheel-a few to be sure, but still and all there it is. Here's the vid btw. And it is ridiculous... " [VIDEO]
>I almost feel stupid but I never realized they take the corners THAT fast. Holy shit. Respect. That's insane. The camera angles Rarely do the cars justice in protraying their speed (though its gotten better). There's a great vid on HN with a Porsche 919 sportscar at the Nurbugring that portays the quick factor fairly realistically (you can quibble about the various diffrences between a Sportscar and an F1 car in terms of capabilities--both are other worldy quick, and fast). I like to post that vid when talk here turns to self-driving cars, but I digress; F1 pilots are simply amazing. The cars are too. " [VIDEO]
> it will be pretty much destroyed next year by the Tesla S with plaid mode Why don't Tesla's current cars destroy the Taycan? I think it's fair to say that at this time Tesla's a year behind Porsche in the performance EV stakes. Here are some of the Taycan's performance test results which Tesla has so far been unable to match: - 24 hour endurance run. 3,425 kms covered in 24 hours: [LINK] - Onboard video of their 7:42 run at the Nurburgring: [LINK] - Acceleration and handling comparison to the Model S P100D: [LINK] - Model S Plaid's Nurburgring results: [LINK] And no onboard video yet from any of Tesla's Nurburgring runs unfortunately. It's also disappointing that Tesla isn't bringing any of its current cars to the Nurburgring. > the new roadster will literally lap it That seems unlikely. To literally lap the Taycan the new Roadster will need to achieve a 3:50 lap time. The current electric lap record is 6:05 held by the Volkswagen ID.R: [LINK] And the overall record is 5:19 held by the Porsche 919 Evo: [VIDEO]
Theres no way a tesla roadster is beating the current record holder, the 919 evo. The roadster would be magnitudes heavier, plus it wouldn't have the aero for the downforce. [VIDEO]
>> Anyway, big rigs have loose steering because they need precision at highway speeds. The opposite is actually true. Big rigs have loose steering so that the driver will Not jack knife the truck in a panic situation. A tighter steering rack is Much more precise. Street tires, and especially racing tires, work best (have the most grip) at very narrow slip angles. Here's a Wikipedia about the "friction circle" as racers call it. > Porsche 919 Hybrid EVO did it in 5:19 If anyone hasn't seen this, I highly recommend it, even if you're not a car fan. [VIDEO]
Here's Porsche really at its best, on the Nurburgring's Nordschleiffe in 2018, which is arguably the most complicated and diverse track on the planet doing a cool 5m19s (in 2024 a Mercedes AMG GT One was a full 1min10s slower, for example): [VIDEO] Any car lover who doesn't know that vid can safely watch it.
