George Hotz of Comma AI gives a 2017 conference talk on lessons from building a self-driving system. He argues about how driving should be defined and why the common approach to autonomous vehicles is flawed.
HN commenters point to it as a candid, contrarian view of self-driving approaches and the real limits of the business.

George Hotz had a great point about this and how Comma.ai handles defining the driving problem and what "driving badly" actually means, aka, interacting with and driving as other humans are expected to drive, quirks included. His whole talk is interesting but the short part about that is here: [VIDEO]
Pipe dream. Even if a driverless car was to exist.. it has to contend with millions of other vehicles all being driven by human beings. George Hotz has a killer talk about why the general approach to autonomous vehicles is flawed. I highly recommend it. [VIDEO]
You might want to have a look into the public output of George Hotz. Obviously he is a little biased towards his own efforts, but he is very open about limitations and the actual reality of the self driving business. [VIDEO] Note: He regularly runs a Twitch livestream coding stuff in the space, recordings are on YouTube, very high signal low noise stuff there.
