Reminds me of a video I recently watched of a crew of 4 women rowing across the Atlantic in a tiny little boat, taking continual 4 hour shifts for 3,000 miles: [VIDEO]
Depends on the crossing. Usually they will choose a route that is favorable. This is probably the same as the ocean crossings by row boat. [VIDEO] Generally speaking there is a route called the "Milk Run" from Europe to the Caribbean that has tail winds and good currents in the right direction. Also much nicer weather.
I watched a YouTube video about four women who rowed across the Atlantic, it's really good. I couldn't imagine doing it solo. [VIDEO]
