A 2000 IBM commercial in which Avery Brooks complains that we still have no flying cars. It plays on the failed futurist promises of the twentieth century.
HN commenters reference it, sometimes jokingly, in flying-car threads as an ironic sign that culture had written off the idea.

I'll just leave this here. [VIDEO] Anyone remember the IBM "Flying Cars" commercial with Avery Brooks from Star Trek DS9? Watch the whole thing, and wait for the punchline.
Every time I see an article on flying cars, I can't help but be reminded of an old IBM commercial[0] from 2000. Deliciously ironic considering it represented the fact that mainstream culture had all but written off the idea entirely. [0] [VIDEO]
I'm still waiting for my flying car... It's well after the year 2000 and I was promised flying cars! [0] [VIDEO]
