A how-to video on datamoshing, the glitch-art technique of removing keyframes so that motion data smears across video. It walks through the tools needed, such as ffmpegx and Avidemux, though the author notes parts are outdated.

Cited in glitch-art threads as the non-programmatic way to datamosh by deleting keyframes.

Because it's beautiful. The effect is known as datamoshing and has become popular in some contemporary video art. It got popular from a Chairlift music video and is achieved by removing keyframes from compressed videos. Check out this how-to for the non-Ruby way to do it: [VIDEO] Here's the Chairlift video: [LINK] And here's some work (from Takeshi Murata) that I think directly influenced the datamoshing effect becoming popular: [LINK] [LINK]

Whoa, cool. Reminds me a bit of a video codec technique to exaggerate the motion frames and compression ala "datamoshing". Keyframes are removed which leaves only information from the previous frame to be updated by motion frames. Than update/motion frames are reiterated sequentially which creates an effect that just further saturates the previous frame and looks like a fluid melting effect. in use: [LINK] how to via ffpmeg: [VIDEO]

Thank you very much! I'll try and see if I can get my hands on a projector again. Generative art != glitch art, but these might be of interest to some people as well, since there was thread about a week ago on PNG glitching, and I went down a rabbithole saving links. [LINK] [LINK] [LINK] [VIDEO]
