CuriousMarc inspects a newly arrived Teletype Model 19, an early military unit built around a Model 15 keyboard and printer, after an initial rough cleaning. It is the first part of a restoration series and touches on 5-bit Baudot code.
HN commenters point to this restoration series as a thorough explanation of how teletypes work at every level.

CuriousMarc, a volunteer at the Computer History Museum, recently finished a video series restoring two Model 19 teletypes into working order. It's a long series but eventually explains how the devices work at all levels, and shows off some of the more niche features of the ttys. Well worth the watch. [VIDEO]
He has this playlist on the same channel where they restore the Model 19, and they explain in detail how the decoder works: [VIDEO]
I was staggered by how much adjustment was required when watching CuriousMarc's excellent Model 19 restoration series, seems incredibly finicky. [VIDEO]
