My favorite domain that I own was inspired by the macklemore song "Thrift Shop" [1]: [LINK] . Originally someone had registered the .com, but they let it expire after Macklemore's song was no longer trending, so now my .com just redirects to the .org. [1] [VIDEO] The lines go, "... They be like, 'oh that gucci is hella-tight'. I'm like, yo, that's $50 for a t-shirt. Limited edition, lets do some simple addition, $50 for a t-shirt that's just some ignorant bitch shit. I call that getting swindled and pimped , I call that getting tricked by a business..." I think the Swindle is the food industry's substitution of bleached & deodorized seed oils for humanity's evolutionarily-approriate fats & oils. (Before the 1950's, soybean oil was used to make paint.) The pimping is putting women on fake hormones to suppress their menstrual cycles. My ex-wife didn't like birth control because it took her libido away. After we had gone our separate ways, she called to complain that she was still losing 1/2 her month to PMS, and did I have any ideas? I found something for her to try, which she has found remarkably effective. All the women I've talked to dislike the status quo for women's health. Though some do think that anything is better than getting knocked up... I try to not buy new domains. I've let a few expire, but there are others that I keep renewing, with the intention to get to them some day.
Here is a catchy tune that was a pop hit (topping Billboard Hot 100 in U.S.) ten years ago, it can be the inspiration for your next trip to the used clothing store, the message is timeless. (lyrics are NSFW) [VIDEO] "The song's lyrics show Macklemore's esteem for thrift shops and saving money, rather than flaunting expensive items like many rappers. The song was met with universal acclaim, with various music reviewers praising its humorous lyrics and social critique. " [Wikipedia]
Again I don't really think many of these concepts really apply any longer. I'm currently wearing $10 Chinese knock-off shoes that are lasting for years comfortably, while there are plenty of low income types running around in Air Jordans because of marketing. This is part of the reason I have a bit of a personal crusade against marketing and advertising. I think its currently one of the main things that is realistically keeping the poor poor. Endless creation of artificial demand and instilling false hope about what 'luxury' goods would do for a person is just screwing over poor people. Some hip hop and other stuff has started going down this track [1], but it's still outvolumed a few hundred times over by the culture of glorifying being exploited by corporations. [1] - [VIDEO]
