Technology may play a role. Reaching for a smartphone is easier than recalling a fact from memory. Who remembers phone numbers anymore? I wouldn't guess that memory is the issue so much as less exposure to this type of information in the first place. We no longer aimlessly browse stores checking everything out; now we just search for specific items, buy them, and move on. I can probably recall the prices of things I've actually purchased about as well as past generations, but anything beyond that is basically a wild guess. As someone who's been keto for just about my entire adult life, the humor of "I mean it's one banana Michael. What could it cost, $10?"[1] was almost lost on me. 1: [VIDEO]

>5k sounds like an incredibly small amount of money. The equivalent of a week's salary in the US. It's almost comedic how out of touch this comment is. Reminds me of this[0] [VIDEO]

The $1300/mo apartment I have in the midwest would easily cost $3000+ in SF/LA/NYC. Three bedrooms, 2000 sq ft, two stories. I live alone. I can afford it easily. Median home values. My state: $152k. CA: $551k. WA: $393k. NY: $305k. Gas absolutely does not cost the same as everywhere else. In my midwest state, the average today is $3.05/gal. In California, $4.65. WA: $3.85. Even in IL, which is "expensive midwest" for sure, its $3.37. Electricity: my state, $0.135/kwh. CA: $0.226. NY: $0.196. There are some generally high COL states like WA which have pretty cheap electricity. "There are cheap restaurants everywhere". Even McDonalds charges more in different states. Its not the same! My state, a Big Mac costs $4.10. CA: $5.11. WA: $4.67. [VIDEO]

I don't think that's what people are "objecting" to about this (well, not even objecting in many cases, just... flabbergasted). The author appears to do very little work, while he pays someone to sit there and be his surrogate mother, so that he can be a bit more productive. It seems somewhat attention-seeking (I personally believe it's honest, though it does invoke Poe's Law). That's fine too, people seek attention on HN, but they usually offer something insightful in return. This is more the equivalent of the Tiktok user who posted her "day in the life of an employee at (Meta? Airbnb?)" that involved very little work. Also fine, work isn't the point of life. But when you're showing off a flamboyantly eccentric "productivity hack" that got you to work 80 hours in a month instead of 25, so you could spend more time starting blog posts, breakdancing, doing yoga, going to the gym, "unironically starting a company (it's in stealth, sorry!)", doing online courses (at least this is at least somewhat related to the job they are presumably actually paid to do)... many people reading are going to be amused at the very least. It seems like they have time management issues that make this "experiment" only potentially useful to people who also struggles to get anything actually done due to battling severe ADHD while balancing working at a very casual pace, and shooting off in 10 different directions at once all the time. They would very likely benefit from some combination of a reality

Could someone be the CEO of McDonalds thinking a Big Mac meal in the US costs $3? Big “It’s one banana, Michael, how much could it cost? $10?” Vibes. [VIDEO]

I forgot to mention the best part, punch line: Vivaldi rewrites Session_/Tab_ files every time you close a Tab (and I think sometimes on open, or maybe a timer), so that in case of browser crash you can recover your session with all tabs intact. Yes, thats right, Vivaldi rewrites tens of megabytes on a whim. For me average is ~2.6GB per day/ ~1TB/year. Just to nail the point home - couple of latest snapshots have a bug where they dont clear previous entries in Tabs_ [LINK] After ~23 restarts Tabs_ file grew to 144MB, still being rewritten every time you close a Tab :o, and grows by 6MB every restart. How wasteful is Vivaldi/Chrome [LINK] : \AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\Default\Network\TransportSecurity ~700KB file is being regularly deleted and recreated [LINK] This 700KB file is being rewritten 2-4 times _per minute_ while only updating ~10 entries inside. Here is an example of whats inside TransportSecurity [LINK] Those entries arent even important for permanent storage ... and the only data changing is expiry. WTF is going on? \AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\Default\Preferences again ~700KB, also only useless stuff changes between rewrites, like: "last_visited" "language_model_counters" "predictionmodelfetcher" ""expiration" "last_modified" "visits" "lastEngagementTime" useless stats, if anything (why would I need those exactly?) those all belong in a database file somewhere. ~100 byte change forces 700KB file rewrite multiple times per minute. \AppData\Local\Vivaldi\U

> I've never seen a real video, it may as well be a common saying after being on the internet for a so long time. I mean, I can show you the video: [VIDEO] But that has nothing to do with Bill Gates or any other person named Gates. (You might be aware that Bill Gates isn't a woman.) It's a joke on a comedy show. It's not something anyone has ever said.

If I have to trust you to give me back my $10, I'm never contributing to your code. Ever. If I have to trust GitHub to give me back my $10, frankly, I have more trust for a random person on the internet at this point. Also, you glossed over my banana joke, but it did hold meaning[0] > Yes, and what is the problem with [closing down PRs and Issues] solution? Are you serious? I mean it is an acceptable solution but it's completely orthogonal to the one we've been discussing. I can see you're not serious. I was skeptical because the first comment, but thanks for making that clear now. [0] [VIDEO]
