Tom Scott-style absurdist research by tom7 for SIGBOVIK 2021, using machine learning to discover letterforms that are 'uppercaser' than uppercase A and lowercaser than lowercase. It is a comedic, technically inventive deep dive with fonts and a paper.
Tom7 is an HN favorite, and this video is praised as hilarious, educational silly ML that keeps getting better.

SIGBOVIK is proud to have published this groundbreaking work in its 2021 proceedings, which were released today. Also, check out the author's video: [VIDEO] For more non-serious research that is often executed seriously, see: [LINK]
I assume you're very familiar with Tom7, and in particular his SIGBOVIK submissions, but just in case: Tom7! (Good starting point for anyone who's not: [VIDEO] )
Came here to post this ↑ Tom7's Uppestcase and Lowestcase Letters [1] is one of the most entertaining (and educational) experiences I had lately [1] [VIDEO]
[VIDEO] (Uppestcase and Lowestcase Letters [advances in derp learning]) Is pure gold. I don't wanna spoil it, it just keeps getting better and better as the video progresses. I laughed so hard. If by some freak chance I ever become wealthy, I want to sponsor this sort of research.
I found a few months ago that the gpt-4 code interpreter is capable of converting a black and white png of a glyph to an svg [LINK] It would be cool to combine a script like the one gpt-4 gave me with an image generation model to generate fonts. The approach from this blog post is way more interesting though. On a separate note it reminds me of this suckerpinch video :) maybe we can finally get uppestcase and lowestcase fonts [VIDEO]
I want to observe that one of my favorite youtubers did exactly this with making the "uppest case" and "lowest case" letters. [VIDEO] I love this guy so much and wish he made far more videos.
Lots of the AIisms with letters remind me of tom7's SIGBOVIC video Uppestcase and Lowestcase Letters [advances in derp learning] [VIDEO]
