Peter Shor tells the story of how he discovered Shor's Algorithm, from his early mathematics days to the quantum factoring breakthrough. It was recorded at MIT at the Physics of Computation conference.
HN recommends it as an oral history of the algorithm straight from its inventor.

If you are interested in the oral histoy of Shors algorithm and error correcting quantum codes. Shor (yes the one who invented Shor's Algorithm) gave a create 30 min presentation here [VIDEO] .
I don't fully understand all the details, but even I can tell that this algorithm is beautiful. Mixing together the concepts of modular sequences, periods, and Fourier transforms, plus doing this fast with computers that barely exist in order to find factors or numbers is just an amazing construction. There's a video featuring Peter Shor about the invention of this algorithm: [VIDEO]
[VIDEO] > Hear the story of Shor's Algorithm, straight from the source, Peter Shor. Shor's part of the story starts in '81. Though, I generally agree with the it is hard to make predictions that far out. We've got the math to do some higher things, but we still don't have flying cars and fusion power.
