Andy Bell's 2022 talk on hinting the browser rather than micromanaging it, using progressive enhancement, CSS layout, fluid type and space, and modern CSS to build resilient front-ends.

HN recommends it as a practical case for intrinsic, fluid CSS that cuts down on media queries and selectors.

They're not that complex if you understand CSS And let's face it… to understand the example code you only need understand what > + * do in CSS Using intrinsic sizing, and the sorts of approaches Andy Bell suggests reduces the volume of CSS enormously and can often get rid of media queries and huge numbers of selectors that get repeated across viewport sizes I'd really encourage you to watch this talk by Andy [VIDEO]

> I don't know how useful this is. The website that is the subject of this discussion comes from Andy Bell. I would encourage you to see his other work, e.g. Every Layout[1], and the website[2] linked to a recent talk he gave[3]. In particular the answer to your question can be found at 14:38[4] in the talk, perhaps more precisely the slide he shows at 14:59. [1] [LINK] [2] [LINK] [3] [VIDEO] [4] [VIDEO]

I have been using this approach and happy with it. It’s similar I think? I just don’t need tailwind for the puny websites I cobble together. Andy Bell – Be the browser’s mentor, not its micromanager [VIDEO] Btw. Great website and articles. Thank you for posting.
