Policy advisor Simon Anholt presents the Good Country Index, a measure of how much each nation contributes to the world beyond its own borders. In a funny TED talk he argues governments should think globally, and reveals which countries rank surprisingly.
HN points to it as an alternative to GDP for measuring national progress and as background on the Good Country Index.

I think your idea has been implemented already [LINK] Here's a talk by the same guy [VIDEO] More info about good country [LINK] [LINK]
Maybe this is a better way of measuring progress instead of GDP and productivity? TED: Which country does the most good for the world? Simon Arnholt [VIDEO] And maybe instead of re-distribution of wealth (which is zero-sum) it should be a redistribution basic food, housing, entertainment and access to education (which is non-zero sum and can be optimized for).
I was watching a TED talk on the "Good Country Index" a couple of days ago [VIDEO] Funnily enough, Finland is #1 right now. [LINK]
